Day 1: The principles of endodontics
Aim: Understand the rationale for endodontic treatment, and the first steps of management
Objectives:
Understand the basis of endodontic disease and post-treatment disease
Evaluate the complexity of cases to enable effective treatment planning
Understand root canal anatomy and locate canals effectively
Appropriately follow-up cases
Day 2: The principles of chemo-mechanical disinfection
Aim: Effectively prepare and disinfect the root canal system
Objectives:
Effectively achieve patency and create a glidepath
Prepare canals for obturation using different file systems
Actively disinfect canals
Understand the rationale behind interim dressing and temporisation
Day 3: Obturating, sealing and post-treatment disease
Aim: Understand effective techniques for sealing the root canal system and approaches to post-treatment disease
Objectives:
Use single and multiple cone techniques with warm vertical and cold lateral condensation
Select appropriate sealers for different techniques
Effectively diagnose and treatment plan for post treatment disease
Undertake simple management of post-treatment disease
Day 4: Restoration of the root filled tooth
Aim: Apply the range of restorative techniques available for root treated teeth to maximise tooth survival, aesthetics and function.
Objectives:
Understand the properties of different materials and suitability for different clinical situations
Appreciate techniques for maximising biological and mechanical protection
Understand the reasons for endodontic treatment failure and why special consideration is needed for endodontically treated teeth
Consider timescales of restoration and follow-up
